L5 Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship Standard

An operations/departmental manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals
and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy. They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge,
skills and behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. Roles may include: Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and specialist managers.


  • Duration

    The typical duration for this apprenticeship is 30 months, but will depend on the previous experience of the apprentice.

Day or block release is required at North Lindsey College with support from a fully qualified assessor. Location at Catch and North Lindsey College.

All apprentices must undertake an independent endpoint assessment which is a synoptic assessment of the knowledge, skills and behaviours that have been learnt throughout the apprenticeship. The purpose of the assessment is to make sure the apprentice meets the standard set by employers and are fully competent in the occupation.

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher. Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment

Course Fees

£7,000 - Apprenticeship Levy payers will pay the full cost from their levy: employers with 49 or less staff with an apprentice aged 16-18 years will pay no fees; all other employers will pay 5%. Prices are subject to discussion and agreement based on circumstances
