Level 3 Diploma – Animation, Special Effects and Media

The Diploma in Creative Media Production – Animation, Special Effects and Media provides you with the opportunity to create 2D & Stop Motion animation using conventional techniques of the industry. You will also have the opportunity to learn visual effects (VFX) for use in film or games, allowing you to give your final films that extra layer of production value seen in all big budget movies! We are also excited to be working closely with 360 degree media who are based at High Melton in the near future!

If you want to practice a variety of techniques normally reserved for Hollywood films and why things happen the way they do in such a diverse industry this course is right for you! Through a variety of practical projects you will learn how to create 2D Animations, 3D Motion Graphics, Visual Effects in film and Stop Motion Animation.

You will be taught by industry specialists and go on trips to further your studies. To accompany you throughout all stages of the course you will have access to a range of professional media/ film equipment including the current professional grade software. You will have Access to our Green Screen room and have the freedom to create your own 2D/ 3D sets!

The course is delivered through a series of 8 units, each with their own set of assignments.

All Assignments are graded on the quality of the portfolio and product – You do not sit an exam!

Units 1-3: You will be creating visual effects projects and exploring roles in the sector. Within this you will cover the theoretical links to audience, while practicing research techniques to structure your idea into a feasible product. Workshops are held to allow you to practice with equipment and build production skills.

Units 4-7: You will develop your skills further through the creation of 2D animations & stop motion, you can also expect to be exploring the context of Hollywood and Animation.

From the skills you have acquired in Units 1-7:

Unit 8: Grants you the freedom to choose something you would like to make for the final major project. This is often inspired by a project you have enjoyed the most from the year so you can explore it further in the final major project!

All Assignments are graded on the quality of the portfolio and product – You do not sit an exam!

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs grades C or above including English (or 4-9 ) and Maths at D or above (3-9)
  • or a First Diploma in Relevant Subject Level 2 at Merit
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
