Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) require inclusive provision that provides equal opportunities to promote learning and development.
The Foundation Degree as well as offering in depth knowledge and understanding of children with SEND also offers opportunities to develop skills to support in the workplace as the assessments are designed to be at the forefront of practice which will embed skills to reach a wider professional audience; these include essays, case studies, posters, leaflets, presentations wikis and e-portfolios.
At the end of this Foundation Degree, you will hold a level 5 in supporting children with special educational needs and disability.

Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Students will be notified when applicable.
Campus – The taught sessions on campus are designed to deliver an evening study block that allows students to immerse themselves in their study. In response to student feedback, the delivery model will follow a pattern of focused study, with one module delivered at any given time. Students will be taught face to face using a range of different methods. The teaching approaches that will be adopted include: Lecture style, Guest Speakers, Student led seminars, educational visits, learning resources and tutorials.
Online – The on-line mode of delivery supports those in employment but allows flexibility of access to materials. This mode of delivery suits students who do not have the opportunity to access a local provider or who have other commitments which prevent their attendance on campus. The pedagogical approach adopted is the Salmon Model (2000), which is based on developing an online community of practice. The teaching approaches that will be adopted include: Recorded delivery, weekly discussion forums, e-tivities, tutorials, virtual learning environment & independent study.
Students will receive a combination of 4 hours delivery and a further 4 hours of online activities each week. Additional independent study is expected.
Level 3 subject specific qualification and a minimum requirement that practitioners are either in paid employment or undertaking a voluntary placement for a minimum of two days per week.

This course provides a range of skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas such as an Early Years SENCO, Inclusion Officer, Behaviour Support Manager, Specialist Support Assistant.
If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes could include the BA (Hons) in Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs and Disability.
