ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

If English is not your first language, we provide a range of courses which will help you improve your English language skills. You’ll study speaking and listening, reading and writing to improve your skills in listening and responding, speaking to communicate, contributing effectively, and engaging in discussions and improving your spelling, grammar and punctuation skills. We offer both full and flexible part-time courses and our highly experienced team will discuss the best options for you. 

Our full time ESOL Study Programme at Entry 1-Level 1 are for 16–18 year olds. Alongside your ESOL course, you will also study maths, employability, digital skills, well-being and take part in work experience, allowing you to have real hands-on experience to put your skills to the test and help develop them further. In addition we offer enrichment trips to develop your understanding of Life in The UK and sports activities.

At Doncaster College, we have special classes for Adults, who want to learn English. These classes are called ESOL classes. ESOL classes can help you improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, so that you can communicate better in everyday situations.

Our friendly teachers will help you learn at your own pace and in a way that suits you best. We also have classes at different times to fit around your other commitments.

We understand that learning English can be challenging, but our ESOL classes are a fun and supportive environment where you can practice your English with other learners just like you. Come and join us at Doncaster College and take the first step towards improving your English language skills!

Please note, at the end of the online application form there is a question about the amount of time you have been in the UK and advised if it’s under 3 years to apply in person at the college, this is not now necessary, and the form is being updated. Please tick 3 years and continue with the form, a Status Check will be completed before you enrol.

    Speaking and Listening: Reading and WritingPart time adult courses (19+) are available in the mornings, afternoons, or evening for 2-3 sessions a week. Classes run for 3 hours each session. MathsFunctional Skills: 2 hours Thursday or Friday pm dependant on level. Delivered at various points in the year.GCSE maths 3 hrs Tuesday am- September start.

You will be supported to improve a range of English language skills in order to improve your employability and integrate into local community.

Maths

Functional skills are designed to give you a basic knowledge to help you progress in both work and general life: You will be helped to understand how to solve every day basic mathematical problems such as adding, multiplying & dividing.

 

Assessment Method

You will complete a range of tasks that are assessed by your tutor and the awarding body.

Entry requirements There are no entry requirements for these courses. You will be interviewed and assessed once we have received your application the specialist tutors will give you advice and guidance about the most appropriate course and level for you.

Financial Support

Depending on your situation, you may be able to access a range of financial support available.

Courses are either co-funded or fully funded. People wanting to apply must have a status check done prior to enrolment, then fees will be discussed. Applicants may be eligible for a fee waiver depending on their status.
