BA (Hons) Business and Management students were challenged to take on both roles of the recruiter and candidate at a graduate assessment centre.
The Stables Conference Centre hosted the mock facility where students were put through their paces of a usually long and daunting day of group exercises, discussions and debates, panel interviews, and personal pitches where candidates were challenged to sell themselves for a given role.
The day was a huge success and students commented on how much they had got out of the day, with some even commenting that they forgot it was a simulation and that their nerves were genuine! Lecturer in Business Management, Becky Goodman commented, “I would have no hesitation in recruiting any of these learners based on their performance on the day and it is fair to say that they all now have the ‘edge’ going into the graduate recruitment arena”.
Graduate assessment centres offer a fair but competitive way of selecting candidates for a role. Employers are seeking to recruit much more than someone with a degree, but a person who stands out from the crowd.
