A panel of employers from the Housekeeping industry visited the College on Monday 16th March speaking to Business, Travel, Hospitality and Catering students about the varied career opportunities available across the world.
Panel Organiser, Christoph Hoffmann was joined by six other members including Business Relations Manager and Head of Special Projects at Springboard, a charity which aims to get young people into the industry by offering work experience programmes. The now retired Head Housekeeper of Hotel Du Vin Harrogate and York also attended with the previous chairman of the Yorkshire Housekeeping Association as well as other knowledgeable professionals.
Panel members shared their individual experiences on how housekeeping is the heart of a hotel, giving students an insight to how and why they entered the industry as well as sharing some of their current achievements. Although a tough industry to work in, the panel encouraged students to try housekeeping before disregarding it as well as undertaking work experience to get a taste. Students also had the opportunity to quiz the panel asking for career advice and what is required from a good housekeeper.
Guests enjoyed a tour of the College before the discussion and ended with afternoon tea served in the Waterfront restaurant.
