High Praise from Rugby Football League

Some collaborative work with Castleford Tigers rugby league club, involving University Centre Doncaster PE & Sports Coaching Programme Leader, Pete Holmes, has received high praise recently from the governing body of the sport, The Rugby Football League (RFL).

This work included a coaching workshop led by Pete around the concept of the Embed the Pathway junior player development programme and how coaches can integrate both mental skills and movement development into their coaching sessions. This was followed by an on-field session where coaches were given the opportunity to put this into practice.

The session was attended by the RFL Head of Coach Development Dave Rotheram who said: “Castleford Tigers through Darren Higgins, Talent Development Manager, and Pete Holmes, have developed an excellent coach education programme. The programme focuses the coaches on specific needs of developing talented players. This will not only be of use at the development days at the club, but the coaches will be implementing their learning back in their community clubs on a weekly basis. Through the programme, the coaches have developed their own coaching and reflection skills and have been very open to feedback from their peers. Castleford Tigers should be congratulated for setting up this community of practice amongst a group of coaches.”

Doncaster College and University Centre offer a wide range of sport, sport science, PE and coaching focused programmes. For course details please click here!
