Doncaster College students win big at national hair show but it almost wasn’t to be.
Level 3 Hair students have been perfecting their skills since September ready for the renowned National Hairdressing Federation Competition in Blackpool on 13th March and they didn’t disappoint. With Natalie Edis, Charlotte Bond, Kerry Batty and Natalie Moore all going on to achieve either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in their categories, a resounding success for the Hair & Beauty Department and their dedicated tutor Emma Peace.
Tutor and previous World Skills winner Emma said “I’m just so proud of everyone involved, I always thought the biggest reward came from winning accolades yourself but I now know that isn’t true, the sense of achievement I feel for my students is beyond words”. Emma even donated her very own wedding dress for her students to use as part of the Bridal section, bringing luck to Natalie Edis who scooped a 3rd place for her look in this category.
Students had an amazing day being placed a total of 7 times over 5 categories; including a 1st in Blow Wave, Glamorous Hair and Cut & Blow Wave.
But the road to success wasn’t so easy. Half way through the 110 mile journey the Coach broke down leaving students stranded by the motorway awaiting a replacement. As soon as it arrived the whole team jumped on board and started their competition preparation on route, sharing just one compact mirror between them. With moments to spare the group arrived at the Spanish Hall venue in Blackpool, ready for the first category of the day ‘blow wave’. “I didn’t have time to get nervous before I just went straight in and got on with, I couldn’t believe it when I got a 1st place for my blow wave, I just cried” said Natalie Moore.
