Naomi Taylor – BA (Hons) English

Posted: March 14th 2018

I am due to graduate this year from University Centre Doncaster where I have been studying BA (Hons) English.  Despite my initial reservations, here I am, a mature student. University Centre Doncaster has so many great positives: its location is ideal, especially for those of us with children and family commitments, the learning environment is relaxed, helped by the small class sizes and, contrary to popular belief, there is so much you can do with your degree apart from just teach.

My dissertation is examining the connection between the politics of Black (afro) hair within Doncaster and various Children’s Literature from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It is something which interests me a great deal.

The course has allowed me to go on to apply for a Masters in Race and Resistance. Hopefully then I may be able to bring it back to Doncaster and use it to advocate for more Black and other Ethnic Minorities to join Higher Education at University Centre Doncaster – a subject which I feel extremely passionate about.
